September 2010 - Fair Oaks Volunteer Fire and Rescue Selects Pierce for its Next-Generation Fire Engine
FAIRFAX, VA.
Following a multi-year process of writing specifications, visiting trade shows and climbing all over the current models of fire engines, Fair Oaks Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co. has selected Atlantic Emergency Solutions and Pierce to build and deliver our next generation fire engine. The new engine, which is scheduled to enter service in the summer of 2011, is a state-of-the-art pumper designed to integrate into the Fairfax County fleet. It will deliver the type of capacity, crew and equipment required to provide fire and EMS services in our combination of business, single family, and townhouse residential communities. The new Engine 421B will replace a 1991 Pierce Rescue Engine that has served us well but is ready for retirement. The new engine will provide maximum value for its mission and maximum safety for our
personnel, the community and the environment.

While we are excited about the new purchase and the enhancements it will bring to our community's fire and rescue service, it is also the most expensive vehicle we have ever purchased at a cost of over $500,000!
